Welcome to the ESC Boston 2010 Speaker Center!
This center is resource for speaker information in order to help speakers plan and prepare for ESC Boston2010.
Location/Dates
The conference will be located at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA from Monday, September 20 to Thursday, September 23.
Registration
As a speaker at ESC Boston 2010, you are preregistered for the conference. We ask that you proceed to Speaker Registration once on-site. Speaker Registration will be located on Level 2 of the Hynes Convention Center and will be open during the following hours:
Sunday, Sept. 19 -- 3:00pm - 5:00pm
Monday, Sept. 20 -- 7:30am - 5:00pm
Tuesday, Sept. 21 -- 7:00am - 7:00pm
Wednesday, Sept. 22 -- 7:00am - 5:00pm
Thursday, Sept. 23 --7:30am - 1:00pm
Important Deadlines
- Signed Speaker Agreement: Due July 9th

(If you did not receive a speaker agreement, please send an email to this address) - Class Notes/Presentation Slides (required of ALL presenters): Due August 4th. Please refer to the guidelines in your Speaker Kit, including proper naming of files. Please note there is an ESC SV speaker template for Power Point presentations that should be used. - Free Registration: As a speaker, you will receive complimentary registration to the ESC Boston Conference. There is no need to register for specific classes, as you will be given a badge providing you access to all the classes and all of the special events, including the keynote addresses and panel discussions.
- Colleague Discount: We invite you as a speaker to pass on the registration promotion code included in your speaker kit to your colleagues. With this code, they will receive 25% off any ESC Conference Pass. We encourage you to pass it on to anyone that you would like to attend ESC Boston 2010!
- Extensive Exposure: Your name and course description are featured in our course catalog, our primary promotional brochure, and on our website. We will also be conducting an aggressive PR campaign, designed to increase interest in the conference and your presentation. At the conference, your class information will be part of the printed Official Event Guide. In addition, your name, biography, and course description will be available online.
- Access to the Speaker Ready Room: Our Speaker Ready Room will be available for your use during the week of the conference. You will have space to prepare for your sessions, relax and network.
Your Role as a Speaker
As a speaker at ESC Boston, it is your responsibility to submit an electronic version of both your class notes/slide presentation and a technical white paper (8-15 pages, NOT applicable for tutorials) that will be posted to the ESC Boston website for registered attendees to download prior to the conference. Please do not send hardcopies of these materials. These notes should be submitted electronically, directions below. These are a very important value to our conference attendees, you must submit them by our deadline of August 4th.
Note: Power Point slides or class notes are not a substitute for the technical paper.
Audio Visual
Each of the conference session rooms will include the following:
- 1 wired lavaliere microphone
- 1 podium Microphone
- 1 LCD projector with connection
- Screen
- Format: PDF and PPT
Please submit your class notes in both pdf and native file formats. We will not distribute or post the Power Point (or other native files). Place the class title, the class number and your name prominently at the beginning of your document. When you submit a PDF, please prepare the file with two slides per page (handout view). - Template: There was an ESC Boston Power Point template included in the Speaker Kit. Please use this template. It is important to keep our conference consistent.
- Fonts: Please use standard fonts in your presentations. Some examples are Arial, Times New Roman and Courier. We want to avoid the possibility of some attendees not being able to view your notes because of the font used.
- Company Logo: Please refrain from placing your company logo on your slides.
- Content: Ideal material includes general session overviews, copies of slides and or files, notes, diagrams, and problem solving exercises. The content of your notes will depend on the format of your actual presentation.
- File Naming: Please use the following format for labeling your class notes:
“Session NumberSlides_lastname.ppt”For example, for Session ESC-206 with Speaker John Smith should be named as follows: “ESC-206Slides_Smith.pdf”
- Format: PDF. For proceedings and archival purposes, please submit your paper as a PDF. If submitting your paper as a PDF isn’t possible, please contact Colleen Mickey. Place the class title, the class number and your name prominently at the beginning of your document.
- Content: Technical papers should be 8 – 10 pages.
- File Naming:Please use the following format for labeling your proceedings papers: Session NumberPaper_lastname.pdf
- Insert the graphics in your document:
Do not “link” the graphics to your document. All graphics, pictures, charts, figures, and etc. should be inserted (embedded) into your electronic file.
Note: Speakers will be responsible for providing their own laptop.
Evaluations
Evaluations are passed out to attendees as they enter the classroom. At the end of each session, our Conference Team collects the evaluation, tabulates the results and provides each instructor with individualized feedback on their performance a few weeks after the event. Please be sure to make an announcement about filling out evaluations during your conference session.
Directions to Submit Class Notes/Presentation Slides and Technical Papers
Submit all class notes and proceedings papers electronically in one of two ways:
1) Emailing to Colleen Mickey at - ESCSpeakerServices@ubm.com
2) Upload to our ftp site (preferred process):
PLEASE NOTE: If you don’t have an FTP program such as Filezilla you will need to use Internet Explorer 6, if you have Internet Explorer 7 or later it will not work and you will need to use Windows Explorer. If you open My Computer, you can just type the address into that address bar.
-Enter: ftp://electroguest@ftpwest.cmp.com
-When prompted:
-Username: electroguest
-Password: elect@19
-Select: “electronics” folder
-Select: “Incoming Folder” folder
-Select: “ESC Boston 2010”
-You can then drag your presentation to this screen.
-Please let Colleen Mickey know that you have uploaded your presentations by emailing her at ESCSpeakerServices@ubm.com
